Let’s stipulate once again that most of us have enough perfumes to last for years without us ever buying another full bottle, and we talked about it more than once. And yet…
Saturday Question #251:
Do You Still Have A Perfume Wish List?
I am asking not about those wouldn’t-mind-owning-if-it-were-to-drop-from-the-sky wishes. But do you have a list of perfumes that you are actually considering buying at some point? If yes, do you have it in your head? Or do you write it somewhere? What perfumes are on your list? And if no, is it because you just haven’t come across any that you would want to buy? Or is it a conscious decision not to buy anything at all?
My Answer
I don’t need any more perfumes… And I am still on a “very-low-buy.” And yet, I have a wish list.
On that list, there are two perfumes that I will definitely buy eventually – Puredistance Gold and Papillon Hera. Gold has been on my list for almost 5 years: I finished the remaining couple of mls from the travel spray gifted by the brand that were left after a joint blogs giveaway hoping to buy my own bottle soon, but it hasn’t happened yet. But I still think it’s amazing and would want to wear it from time to time.
Two years ago, I fell in love with Hera after trying it from a sample I bought from Luckyscent. Buying a sample at that point was unusual for me, and I don’t remember why I decided to do it, not being a fan of the brand. Probably, because I liked their previous perfume, Bengale Rouge. I am glad that I did, because I find this perfume remarkable.
I don’t need more perfumes, but I’ll probably still buy these two. Eventually.
There is one more perfume that I know I should not be buying, but it keeps getting into my thoughts every time I see (and try) it at a store: Parfums de Marly Delina Exclusif. Until I tried this perfume, I was immune to this brand’s feminine offerings. I tried this one only because there was nothing else new in the store, and I was in the mood to test something… Now, every time I spray it at a store, for the first several minutes I think: “Nah, it’s not that great, I do not need it…” And then I can’t stop sniffing my wrist and later clothes it transferred to thinking how much I like what I smell.
How about you?

Hey there Undina,
YES! I still have a wishlist. It’s still as long as my arm.
Here are the top 5
Saint-Germain-Des-Pres: Celine
Ma Bette: Eris
Café Cabanel: Teo Cabanel
Violettes Du Czar: Oriza L. Legrand
Perfumista: Anatole Lebreton

I was seriously considering Perfumista, but it got discontinued, so I’m not sure I would be able to find it even if I weren’t on the low-buy.
I feel good about your list: I know 3 of perfumes on it!

OH NO! I had no idea Perfumista had gone the way of the dodo. WAAAAHHHHHH!
Yay that you knew three of them. Phew! We are still in the loop.

Hera is amazing. Such a rich floral, yet so light & ethereal.
Your question has made me think how I’m going to manage my no buy year. My self imposed rule is literally not buying any perfumery, including samples.
There are just two that haunt me. Both PG. Myrrhiad & Poudre de Ris. They are the two that any rumour of discontinuation would make me want to finally buy.
Ok there are three but Kate Moss Cosmoss Sacred Mist is more of a functional fragrance to keep me calm & balanced

I was surprised by how easy both no-buy and later low-buy went for me. This year I plan to buy some samples, but I’m not sure about FBs.
About those two perfumes on your wish list: how recent were they? When I tried both of them a couple of years ago, they weren’t the same as I tried earlier. Still nice, but not the same.

I’ll be getting samples of the most recent versions before I buy.

I do have a small wish list that I keep on my Parfumo account. It’s certainly not a substantial list, but it serves as a way for me to organize those perfumes that constantly occupy my mind. My wish list includes Principalities by Cæleste, Jacarandá by Fueguia, Vanille Havane by Les Indémodables, and Rosae Mundi by Profumum Roma. I also have Gold by Puredistance in my collection and absolutely love it. Apart from these, I genuinely don’t require any more perfumes, but there’s always the occasional purchase.

Cæleste is the only brand from your list that I’m completely unfamiliar with. I consider this a success – even though I haven’t tried any of the perfumes you mentioned.

The perfume maker is David-Lev Jipa Slivinschi (a.k.a. Toskovat’ from Romania) and Introduced in 2024. Principalities by Cæleste has been out of stock for some time now. I just keep my eyes peeled. This perfume is definitely worth experiencing if you have not yet tried it.

I don’t really have a wish list any more. I haven’t tried enough new in the last few years to have developed one! I am trying to not buy anything new; when I fail in that task it’s a brand I have bought before and in the range of $100….

With so many beauties in our collections, it is hard to justify spending more. It must be a very unique and remarkable perfume for me to consider adding it to my collection.

Surprisingly, not really. I’ve gotten to the point of diminishing returns on the excitement and joy of each new bottle. Also trying to buy less in general. Hermès Barénia might be one to consider, though.

You’re the next generation of perfumistas – a wiser one :) Larger collections make you work hard every time you try to choose what to wear.

Great question! I don’t really have a wish list, especially now that I have the few Guerlain Legendaires fragrances that called to me (although Chamade might tempt me), and a couple of newer Parfums Dusita’s fragrances. The other fragrance that tempts me is the eau de parfum of Jacques Fath’s L’Iris de Fath, but not at its current price point. I find I am less interested in discovering new brands and more interested in exploring the classics and the brands I already know and like, and enjoying what I have. I still enjoy a great discovery set, though!

I’m with you on (not) discovering new brands. I get rather annoyed by the next new name thinking that it’s the next “money grab” enterprise. It takes some serious persuasion for me to start paying attention to such brands.

No wish list here which really helps with my low buy. So far so good since whatever I’ve bought were all well under $100! That said, my latest purchase, which counts as 2024 since I thought about and decided on in 2024 is the fabulous Guerlain Lunar New Year 2025 for the Snake Year 🧧🐍:

It’s a beautiful bottle! And I enjoy seeing all of your red bottles – such a feast for the eyes.

Rushing to comment, because the minute I read your opening, guess what immediately popped into my head? Gold!! Yes, same story. I was kindly sent a small bottle at its release, and it wasn’t immediate love, but the more I wore it the more it grew on me. And it gets me compliments, which is rare. I debated it this Christmas, when they have their yearly sale, but in the end didn’t bite. I am sure at some point I will cave in. That is really the only long term desire I haven’t already fulfilled. A recent “want” is Tillia, which I sampled after seeing it on so many Cafleurebon end of year wish lists. I have a soft spot for realistic florals. They give me small shots of happiness, which I need in today’s world. When I tried it, I just got immediate comfort. I’ll try a few more times, and see if it lasts. Good luck with getting the Gold!

Anything with linden gets my immediate attention. So, now I want to try Tillia :)
I will get Gold for one of the upcoming Christmas/anniversary/BD…

Only a couple things on my wish list. The Guerlain Iris Pallida Extrait and Guerlain Ne M’Oubliez Pas. Saving for the extrait first.

A very respectable wish list! :)

Yes, definitely a wish list for me! It’s a note on my phone so it can be easily shared with anyone who might be wondering what to get me for my birthday, Christmas, Valentine’s, President’s Day, etc. (never a wrong time for a scented gift). It does keep growing but I also notice that some items that have been lingering on for years are probably not things I really need (although you never know, there might be some really GREAT deal that I can’t pass up). I have PD Gold on my list as well! I own Hera (it was a birthday gift… see, the list woks!) and adore it! I recently checked two Zoologist scents off the list because I wanted to get them before the bottle change. But not to worry, still plenty of gift ideas remain :-)

A gift for a President’s Day is a novel idea! :)))
Some perfumes lost their place on the wishlist over years: either because I realized I could live without them since I lived that long already or because they got reformulated, and I didn’t like them that much anymore.

I don’t think I do at the moment, having bought much more in recent years than is normal for me, most recently some seriously discounted things in the Ormonde Jayne Black Friday sale, and a new tester of Bois des Îles(!). So I really could not justify having a list even if there were things I was desperate for…
One day I would like to acquire DSH Cimabue, but it is difficult buying across the pond.
