Saturday Question: Are You Tempted by Chanel No 5 L’Eau Drop Bottle?

On June 13, Chanel is releasing a new limited edition of their Chanel No 5 flanker – Chanel No 5 L’Eau. It’ll be available in their boutiques and on chanel.com. I’m not sure why they decided to call it “Drop”: it looks rather like an egg, but that’s how it is referenced on the Chanel site. And “a drop of perfume” sounds a lot better than… you got it. It holds the same No 5 L’eau from 2016 (or at least they claim so: who knows how many reformulations it went through in the years passed). It will be available in one size, 50 ml, and the US price is $155. You might be more than positive that it will sold out, and even if it gets to one of the retailers, it won’t survive long enough to wait for some site-wide promotion.

Saturday Question #218:

Are You Tempted by Chanel No 5 L’Eau Drop Bottle?

Do you like this perfume? Do you have it in your collection? Are you contemplating the purchase of this limited edition bottle?

My Answer

I tried just a tiny sample of No 5 L’Eau (that’s how I requested it from a perfumista friend since I didn’t expect to like it and didn’t want to waste her perfume), and unexpectedly I liked it. It wasn’t love-love to send me buying that perfume immediately, but I was considering a purchase if I happen to come across it at a Duty-free store. It haven’t happened yet.

This bottle looks appealing to me. If it weren’t for my “low-buy” this year, I would have tried to buy it. I am arguing with myself and still not sure if I want to make an exception. We’ll see.

How about you?

    • did not mean to submit just that, although I do like the bottle. I’m not officially on a low buy but with a goal of reducing my collection this year, it doesn’t seem like even a $155 (not that bad for perfume) purchase makes sense. I have sniffed the juice in the past, I’d probably enjoy it, but it would just add to my “too much stuff” anxiety!

        • I’m in the same boat, buying wise. I want to organize my collection a bit, put out some of the prettiest bottles, so I can see them and enjoy their beauty, and maybe even part with some things other people can love. I’m thinking about taking some courses this fall at a local university and this might pay for some of the courses. Really I just want to be a bit more organized in all aspects of my life. Wish me luck with that-bit of an uphill battle for me.

Thank you for the thought provoking Saturday question, Undina :)

          • I hope you earn enough to pay for your classes! I’m doing a 365 project, but I look at some of my favorites and think – at least I can wear them later today. I think I’d rather have a smaller collection of those perfumes I REALLY want to wear often, at this stage of my life.

            • Thanks for the good thoughts, MMKinPA! I’m sure I’ll be able to, and if any of the courses relate to my job there’s a chance the company will pay for some. There’s no specific policy, so it’s a case by case basis-and the company is pretty generous :)

What is a 365 project-is it a year long project? I’ve not heard the term before .

          • Will it be too invasive to ask which courses you’re going to take?

I also want to be more organized. But first, I need to organize my life enough to free up time to get more organized ;)

  1. I’ll have to smell it to know whether I like it – but just from the look, I’m not tempted. Not sure the bottle would seem as special without the context of Chanel having always used a rectangular design. Can Humpty Dumpty stand on its own, or does it need to lay flat?! ;)

  2. It looks like the opaque hand creme container design! Because it’s an egg and therefore not perfume, it doesn’t even count as a perfume buy 😇. I pretty much have all the flacon iterations of L’Eau, including the red bottle!

  3. I already have an earlier bottle of L’Eau. I like it, but I don’t need another one. Also, these little egg bottles hold a deceptively small amount aside. I know because I’ve bought the hand cremes that come in these egg shaped bottles.

    • I assume that if it says 50 ml, it will be 50 ml. But while it’s plenty for perfume, I imagine it goes fast when it’s a hand cream.
I’m still debating with myself whether I want to get it.
