Saturday Question: An Ambassador of What Brand Would You Like to be?

How is your summer going? Is it hot now where you live? Do you spend more time outside these days? I hope you’re still around to participate in this week’s Saturday Question.

Saturday Question on Undina's Looking Glass

Saturday Question #173:

An Ambassador of What Brand Would You Like to be?

I know that none of us is influential enough to be even considered for this role for any of the brands, either upcoming or well established. But just as a mental exercise, if you were given such an opportunity, an ambassador of what brand would you like to be?

My Answer

Our weather is almost perfect: it’s not going to be above 27C/80F for the next 10 days, and as soon as our hot summer sun goes down, the temperature drops, and 15 degrees difference between the hottest and the coolest temperature of the day is great to cool off everything around.

When I came up with this question, I thought that it would be hard for me to choose a brand. But as I went through the list of all of my favorite perfumes, I realized that there were just 3 brands that I love enough to consider for such an important commitment. I do not want to “take” it from you, so I won’t name the contenders (I’ll chime in if anyone mentions my two “runner ups”). The brand I chose is Amouage. Even though my biggest loves from the brand are from their earlier years, I still find their perfumes interesting and try to test everything they release (when I’m not on “no-buy,” of course). And with each next perfume they create, I hope for the next Ubar, Gold, Dia or Lyric. And not only I like many of their perfumes and aesthetics, last year on Instagram they did a series where they presented people who worked on their perfumes. Not a creative director or a perfumer, but regular workers – the woman who glues golden seals on the flacons, the man who oversees the maturation and maceration of concentrates and others. I remember thinking that it was a clever campaign.

  1. If I go on the brand I own most of I would be Brand Ambassador for 4160Tuesdays. I was an early convert to Sarah McCartney’s creations. Falling hard for Urara’s Tokyo Cafe (now Tokyo Spring Blossom) & Lady Rose Lion (Monkey Unicorn).
On the grounds of pure beauty I would love to be Brand Ambassador for Papillon Artisan Perfumes.
Neither need Ambassadors as their owners represent them beautifully

  2. Estee Lauder. I am about 4 years behind on testing all the current versions, but I think they still offer excellent perfumes at affordable prices, with the emphasis on “excellent.” As a perfumista, I think that they are gateway perfumes, so that if your nose tunes to Youth Dew or Cinnabar or Estee, you’ll easily ramp up to more challenging perfumes. If I could speak French, my runner up is Guerlain. ‘Cause I love *so* many of them: and I’d finally find a shade of red lipstick that is me, a chic scarf for a navy silk dress, and even wear heels as I happily spritzed and promoted Guerlain at various events.

  3. I”d like to say April Aromatics but Tanja is her own best muse, so I’ll go with Goutal :) If they’re listening: I’d be awesome cause all of your scents suits me. I love their classics and their newer offerings.

Summer here has been wildly unpredictable: too cold for lobster fishing, too many fires, and now flooding. There’s a very strange surreal picture of a beaver swimming up the Bedford highway. Then we’re back to hot humid days for another week or so. Undina, your weather sounds pretty perfect-warm days and cool nights are my favourite combination.

    Excellent question, as always :)

    • If you ever become an AG’s ambassador, please persuade them to do at least some limited editions of older style bottles (colored ones)! Those were so beautiful!

  4. I’m with rickyrebarco – Parfums de Nicolaï. The largest representation in my collection, I think they are so well made and well priced, and not nearly as well known in the US as they should be. I LOVE that I can buy 30ml bottles, I wish everyone offered smaller sizes. I visited several of their shops in Paris a few years back and had wonderful experiences. My runners up would be Ormonde Jayne and Dame Perfumery.

  5. Annoying. I wrote a big long comment and then refreshed the page before I sent it. GRRRR!
    It boiled down to
I’d love to be Miller et Bertaux representative because they are amazing, don’t cost the earth, fly well under the radar and have been consistently weird but wearable.
There are a couple of others that would also be fulfilling like Neela Vermeire Creations, Maria Candida Gentile, Pierre Guillaume, Divine and Teo Cabanel.

  6. This is a tough one, not only because I’m not sure what exactly such a role would entail but also because I don’t have more than about 2 perfumes from any brand. I’d probably go with a smaller brand such as Maison Crivelli, L’Orchestre Parfum, or L’Atelier Materi. The first two incorporate some kind of synesthetic aspect into their marketing and the third focuses on showcasing facets of a particular raw material in each perfume.

    • I don’t know about the role as well: I thought of the question when one of the beauty YouTube bloggers that I follow mentioned that she was an ambassador of, I think, Curology (a brand that provides TV consultation to work around tretinoin being a prescription-only ingredient). So, it’s intuitively understandable though not an exact knowledge.
Not too familiar with your choices, but since you like these brands, you’ll keep writing about them – an ambassador or not ;) – and I’ll be reading.

  7. Great choice on Amouage, Undina! This would have been my choice in their earlier years but, I’m not as sure anymore but, maybe if I was their ambassador they would listen to my pleas for more stuff like the original scents and attars!

Currently, I’d go with Baruti because I really adore the line and Spyros is such a brilliant perfumer, I could get behind anything he creates!

    • I’m a huge fan of early Amouage as well. But I hope that maybe the next one will be amazing again…
I’m not familiar with Baruti at all. But considering that we both like Amouage, I should probably get to try at least something from the brand. What would be your top 3?

      • Oh, you definitely need to this line if you haven’t! Especially since he does one a my all time favorite Linden scents and I know you like those (Unter de Linden). I also love Chai, Berlin in Winter and Dama Koupa. But truly all of them are great. I have them all as original extrait strength but, he has recently released them all as EdP which I haven’t tried yet.

  8. Probably Papillon Perfumery, as I know Liz Moores the best, followed by Puredistance – the people I know next best. I have been moved to review many of the releases by each company, not because they asked me to, but because I felt like doing so. I guess I appointed myself an unofficial champion of both brands in a way…

  9. Ooh, great question. I’ll spring for Francesca Bianchi. I own and love many of her perfumes, they are quality, and the company doesn’t partake in price gouging or gaslighting their customers.
