Sunday Question: What 3 New(ish) Perfumes Would You Recommend to Try?

I am traveling for pleasure this week, and I will have a chance to visit a couple of specialized perfume stores. I do not know what niche or high-end mainstream brands they carry, but it doesn’t matter since in the last several years my new releases testing was almost nonexistent. So, please recommend me perfumes that I should try if I come across them.

Saturday Question on Undina's Looking Glass

Saturday Question #270:

What 3 New(ish) Perfumes Would You Recommend to Try?

The best recommendation would be something that you bought or consider buying despite not needing any more perfumes. But if you don’t have any such perfumes, anything you tried, liked and thought that you would have bought it if it weren’t for the size of your collection will also fit the bill.

My Answer

Well, if I knew, I wouldn’t have asked you. But I know that when I get to such stores these days, everything seems unfamiliar (brands) and repetitive (perfumes). So, it would be nice to have at least some hypothetical list of what to look for.

  1. I don’t have any perfume recommendations and just wanted to wish you happy and safe travels. Enjoy the trip, especially since it’s for pleasure. Hopefully, we’ll hear about the trip in a future Saturday/Sunday question post and hear about any new perfumes you find. I just.had a quick two night getaway to Healdsburg (parents bought a vacation home there.20 years ago so makes for a nice getaway). Brought two Jo Malone with me – Blue Hyacinth and.Fig.& Lotus Flower.

  2. There are a couple of new Jo Malone London scent I want to try. Beach Blossom & Amber & Labdanum. Obviously I haven’t tried them yet.
The most recent releases that I own are a set of minis from the Lauder Legacy launch goody bag. Obviously I wasn’t at the launch but I fell upon them on eBay almost the day after. God bless influencers who monetise their freebies asap! They’re ok, nothing more.
Seems we perfumistas aren’t the market for new launches.
    Happy travel & sniffage

  3. WOO HOO Undina, have an excellent break. Can’t wait to see what you sniffed.

A few things that might tickle your fancy that I liked.
Neela Vermeire Créations Eshal: White floral done with a beautiful tapestried surround.
Memo Cappadocia: Spicy amber, beautifully balanced.
Creed Millesime 1849 Eau de Parfum: Bay rum spiced citrus floral with a lovely hit of ylang.
Le Galion Eau Folle: Aromatic, spiced with ginger and hints at aquatic.
Nicolai Saint Honore: Peppered, lactonic amber. So unusual and more-ish.

Hope you get your sniff on.

    1. Eshal Neela Vermeire Creations
    2. Naias Sammarco
    3. Epona Papillon

Much easier to find and test, and in the category pretty and easy summer scent, not in the same league as the ones on my list: Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Vetiver.

Wishing you happy and safe travels, and much pleasure sniffing!

  4. I would recommend trying Neela Vermeire’s Eshal, a gorgeous tuberose scent. I couldn’t handle the turmeric note that lasts a good while into the development, but everyone except me seems to love it.

Next, I recommend trying Essential Perfumes Velvet Iris by Dominique Ropion. I just bought a 10 ml bottle and it is divine! Warm, enveloping deep iris scent with a hint of leather that blends beautifully into the whole. I rate it on a par with the Guerlain Iris Pallida Extrait for beauty and longevity and it’s about $500 cheaper!

Thirdly, I recommend checking out Sammarco perfumes, a Swiss brand with a retro vibe, very classical scents with some chypres. Luca Turin recommended the brand for quality and innovation. It wasn’t to my taste, but their fragrances are well done.

    Enjoy your vacation!

    • Hello Rickyrecarco and thanks for making me buy the Velvet Iris ☺️ I skimmed over this post on Tuesday evening, quite late. I was awake enough to order this travel size and also the Orange Santal. It arrived today, fantastic service from France. I’ll open it later as I’ve just got in from work.

  6. Enjoy your trip! I just recently returned from one and got to smell Tilia by Marc-Antoine Barrois, and get why it’s so well loved. Also the Entropiste collection, although I wasn’t wowed by them; I quite liked the lighter Semence Douce.
