Saturday Question: Have You Tried Any L’ENTROPISTE Fragrances?

As much as I do not care for the most new brands these days, a brand created by one of the most prolific perfumers of 2010s, Bertrand Duchaufour, seems deserving at least a consideration.

Saturday Question on Undina's Looking Glass

Saturday Question #260:

Have You Tried Any L’ENTROPISTE Fragrances?

If yes, did you like any of them? If no, do you plan to?

A bonus question: Do you have any favorite perfumes created by Bertrand Duchaufour?

My Answer

I have not tried any of these perfumes yet. I would have been tempted to get a mini-discovery set from the brand’s site, but shipping to the US almost doubles the price of already quite spendy samples. So, I’ll probably wait until I can try them somewhere at a store or at least buy with the local delivery rates.

I remember a couple of years when Mr Duchaufour would release more than 20 perfumes per year. So, for some reason I thought I would have more perfumes created by him. But according to my database, I’ve ever tried just 46 perfumes where I know he was the nose. And out of those, I counted only 8 strong favorites – Naomi Goodsir Or du Serail, Neela Vermeire Creations Bombay Bling!, Ashoka, Pichola and Trayee, Parfums MDCI Chypre Palatin, The Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest and L’Artisan Parfumeur Traversee du Bosphore. And even then, I have full bottles only for the first two, and with the rest – just travel bottles or decants. I wish I didn’t miss the opportunity to buy Traversee du Bosphore while it was still available, because that one and Bombay Bling! are the only two from the list I will miss once I’m done with what I have.

How about you?

  1. I haven’t tried them either, and I’m one of the few people who haven’t clicked with any of M. Duchaufour’s creations that I have tried (although I did enjoy Ashoka). That said, I would try these if given a chance in person.

    • You didn’t mention how many of BD’s perfumes you’ve tried, but if the number is in two digits, liking a single one usually means that he’s not “your” perfumer. Which shouldn’t prevent you from trying any new of his creation – if you don’t have to pay for it, of course.

  2. I own NVC Ashoka & Rahele along with Penhaligon’s Ostara. I have owned LAP Seville a l’Aube & enjoy La Belle Helene. So Duchaufour isn’t my favourite perfumer.
Will I explore his own brand? Probably not.

    • I also have Ostara, but when I wear it, sometimes I like it and other times it overwhelms me.
I enjoyed my samples/decants of Seville a l’Aube & La Belle Helene, but I never considered going for a full bottle of any of them.

  3. I have never even heard of the brand, possibly because of my low-buy situation although this has not stopped me from purchasing travel sprays since anything under $100 is perfumath-free. With this said, just like I don’t distinguish between chypres and “orientals”, I also don’t buy because of the perfumer.

    • While I’m miles away from buying because of a perfumer, my initial interest does usually correlate with how favorable I feel about the brand or the nose. But my no/low-buy definitely changed my testing habits.

  4. I haven’t had the opportunity to try anything from L’Entropiste, but Dorian’s Spleen sounds intriguing. These are my most favorite perfumes created by Bertrand Duchaufour.

    • Frank No. 1 – Frank Los Angeles
    • Al Oudh – L’Artisian
    • Mon Numero 10 – L’Artisian
    • Timbuktu – L’Artisian
    • Chypre Palatin – MDCI Parfums
    • Sartorial – Penhaligon’s
