Saturday Question: What Are Your Top 5 Seasonal Perfumes?

While it’s still relatively warm in the Northern California where I live, it is an unmistakably Autumn, the beginning of my favorite time of the year, perfume-wise and not only. So, for most of my readers, the question is about their Fall favorites. But for my wonderful co-writer Portia and periodic readers from Down Under it’s Spring – hence a more generic form of this week’s SQ.

Saturday Question #237:

What Are Your Top 5 Seasonal Perfumes?

I’m not asking for the best-of-the-best-of-the-best (sir) perfumes for the season or even your all-time loves. But just for this year, this autumn (or spring) – what top 5 perfumes do you look forward to wearing?

My Answer

I have sooo many more cool/cold weather appropriate perfumes in my collection than an appropriate weather to wear them that I’m thrilled that I can finally wear them, and it was actually hard to choose just 5 for this list (as if the rest will be offended not to be included). But here we go (in no particular order):

  • Ormonde Jayne Tolu
  • Puredistance Rubikona
  • Guerlain Encens Mythique d’Orient
  • Teo Cabanel Alahine
  • Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom

How about you?

  1. I love spices, woods and rose for autumn. My list includes Lutens Five O’clock au Gigembre, Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit, Etro Paisley, Ormonde Jayne Woman and Ormonde Jayne Ta’if.

  2. Autumn is my favorite time of year as well, for general comfort and variety of clothes to wear, not to mention the beautiful changing of leaf colors. Several leather fragrances are on my list – Galop, Tuscan Leather, Vespero by Jeroboam… as well as sweeter, warmer scents such as Drive Them Wild by 4160Tuesdays and Cacao Porcelana by Atelier Materi. As some of those are winter favorites as well, in case I don’t get to them in autumn, I’ll add in Montabaco (Intensivo) and Ylang 49.

  3. how to pick only 5 – my favorite season. I’m with you on Alahine; adding Ormonde Jayne Woman, SJP Stash, L’Occitaine Eau des Baux, Nicolaï Acrebleu Intense. I could go on!

  4. I’m with you on owning many more cool weather scents than warm (despite all that time I spent in the outrageous desert heat!). I love getting out my fall favorites to wear. My top five are probably: Kerosene Copper Skies (for that apple pie spice), Naomi Goodsir Bois d’Ascese (smoke!), Histoires 1740(immortelle and leather), Slumberhouse Sova (tobacco overload) and Serge Lutens Chergui (spicy hay). But it is much too difficult to pick just five!

  6. In autumn I love to wear spices, woods, leather, incense and chypres. It’s great to bring them out again. Some favourites are Neela Vermeire Trayee, Armani Bois d’Enscens, Paco Rabane La Nuit, Tauer L’Air du Desert Marocain, Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier Cuir Fetiche.

  7. I hold on to summer favourites as long as possible but now most of them are not working anymore. It feels like holding on to youth :-D

In my current rotation there are Cuir Cuba Patricia de Nicolai, Bel Etage Cloon Keen, SL Feminite du Bois, Mitsouko, Aqua Vitae Forte by Kurkdjian. It’s a mix of spices and flowers.

  8. Autumn is lovely here, sometimes clear blue skies which set off the coloured leaves beautifully. On other days there are patches of fog over the land giving it a magical sense. Honking geese flying south in V- formation and mushrooms everywhere!

I don’t really ‘do’ seasonal fragrances, although the season does influence my choices sometimes. But just for fun: Neela’s Trayee and Mohur, April Aromatics Pink Wood (the only perfume I have that seems to literally radiate warmth), Perfume d’Empire Imortelle Corse and Vero’s Onda.

  9. Only 5? I’m having trouble keeping it down to just 5.
My autumn must haves are SL Ambre Sultan, Guerlain Mitsouko, Arabianoud Kalemat, Papillon Dryad & Aramis Calligraphy Rose.
A recent find that may be a one season wonder is 4160Tuesdays Faerie Queen. Rosy citrus over resins, orris & fir. All sprinkled with a teeny, tiny dusting of icing sugar.
