Sunday Question: Did You Buy Anything Perfume-related During the “Black Friday” Month?

It could be just me, but it felt like this November was crazier than usual with all the “Early Black Friday sales,” “Black Friday specials” and other variations on the t0pic that appeared right after Halloween. I am sure that even those of my readers who live in other parts of the world got at least some exposure to the online manifestation of this favorite American pastime.

Saturday Question on Undina's Looking Glass

Saturday Question #191:

Did You Buy Anything Perfume-related During the “Black Friday” Month?

A full bottle, travel spray or a decant on an especially good sale? A sample set you were eyeing? Some fancy candles or a room spray? Something else?

Bonus question: did you buy anything at all (not perfume-related)?

My Answer

Since I do not really need anything, and I am still in a “no-buy”/”low buy” mode, I wasn’t even looking at any perfume sites. So, no damage to my wallet. At least in this area.

As to everything else, I was quite boring: I bought mostly what I would have bought anyway, maybe not right now but in the next 2-4 weeks – a new tea kettle (mine is threatening to quit working any day now), bulk tea I always buy, new silk pillowcases and several products from The Ordinary. Speaking of The Ordinary: until the end of the month, they are having 23% off their already low prices, free shipping and, with the code SLOWMPES, a free Multi-Peptide Eye Serum (not affiliated). I like and use their Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. And this time I decided to try their new Soothing & Barrier Support Serum.

And I almost forgot: Rusty got a new heated bed.

  1. Rusty’s new heated bed looks comfortable, Undina. I couldn’t help but take advantage of the Black Friday sale at Caswell-Massey. They were offering 25% off, which I thought was generous. But I realized once I threw a few things in my cart that the 25% off was on top of the sale prices of many of the perfumes, soaps and other personal care products. With that being said, I purchased a few things for myself and some stocking stuffers for family. Your mention previously that you use to buy their soaps, so I thought I’ve give them a try. I’ve since received that package, and their soaps are fantastic!

The only non-perfume related purchase I made was today, and for a SunJoe Inflator & Compressor. Sometimes the price is what drives your decision to commit. 😉

    • I’m so glad you got soaps! I just bought a set of 3. The sale was not as great as it was for BF, but Macy’s from where I bought it had a free delivery / so, overall the price was better. I was tempted to buy more now, but I didn’t want to buy enough to get a free shipping.

  2. I did succumb to the Francesca Bianchi BF sale and ordered her new scent, Encounters, plus Profumum Dincanto for 40% off from Krystal Fragrance.

When I had cats they loooved their heated cat beds and laid in them constantly. Lucky Rusty!

  3. Gorgeous Rusty looks so content in his new bed.
The perfume I bought wasn’t a BF deal but travel sizes of Boujee Bougies new scents. I’d committed the money last summer so it was a preplanned purchase.
My head has been elsewhere so I haven’t bought anything else really

  4. I took advantage of Scent Trunk’s 30% off everything and got small 30ml bottles (love that size!) of Golden Cocoa and Gurjun Balsam plus a 5ml of the newest Golden Amber to test. I don’t always love the scents but, find them all so unique. It’s a great concept with some wonderful indie perfumers.

  5. I loved the picture of Rusty in his heated bed:) I use a hot water bottle that has a cashmere wrap over it. Needless to say my cat Chicken loves it too.

I did buy two fragrances from a discounter that I’ve been looking at for a long time: Goutal’s Folie dune Soir, and Hermes Mousson cologne. The latter is discontinued and I liked it: the former is a blind buy. I tend to like almost everything from Goutal, and I like the idea behind this scent.

I also bought the ten ml size of Monsieur, for my brother, and non perfume is my new yoga mat-it’s red, and I bought the matching strap. I love new sports gear and absolutely did not need the yoga gear-I got seduced by the pretty colours.

In other news I got some gardening done today, and got my wreaths up and the greenery in huge outdoor pots, complete with pretty metallic ribbons. I decided which small trees to decorate outside. Did some housework and got to restorative yoga. I can easily get overwhelmed and do too much, or go the other way and talk myself out of decorating at all. Trying for small steps and to stay hydrated, and keep to a sleep schedule. I hope people had a good long weekend.

      • Well I wanted her to have a beautiful name, like Iris or Fleur, but she would only answer to Chicken. She’s a spirited animal, and I know her temperament wouldn’t suit everyone but I think she’s awesome. She hates to be patted unless she wants to be patted. she has pretty black and white marking and a really horrible meow. She’s a great mouser, when she feels like it. I got her because she got caught under one of the oil trucks where I worked and she nearly lost her life. One of the drivers rescued her and and brought her in. We fed her some yogurt, thinking she wouldn’t survive very long. she nearly passed out from fatigue right into her snack. She ate, bit my hand, and fell asleep. then she woke up, bit me again, ate her second snack and my lunch when my back was turned. She was small enough to fit in the cup holder of the truck-not sure how old she was but she was the size of a small banana. We’ve been together ever since-she was fifteen in June :)

        How did you meet Rusty?

    • I’m also on their mailing list, and I thought that the promotion was great. If it weren’t for my “no-buy,” I would have bought at least one bottle.
Sakura is beautiful! I should probably write about it one day.

  6. I think Truffle would love me to have got her a heated bed! – she doesn’t like the cold nights…I bought a Boujee Bougie candle to give me an idea of what Gilded smells like, as I don’t want to invest in the new travel spray without having tried the perfume – you can’t buy samples yet.

I also bought a curling wand(!) and a pillow (not sure if I will keep it), and a Thermos flask (similar in practicality to your kettle). All sensible purchases I would like to think, with quite a bit off.

    • We planned to get Rusty a heated bed, and this year we decided to do it. It’s not too cold here yet, but he likes warm places, so he finally got the one he can choose whenever he feels like it.

I’m curious about thermos flask. Maybe I also need it? :)

  7. I didn’t set out to buy anything specific so Black Friday weekend purchases were opportunistic – I bought 2 sample sets of perfumes from brands I didn’t know before. More on that later. Rusty looks like he approves of his new bed!

    • He does approve it! It keeps warm (10-15 degrees above the room temperature) and once he gets into it, the bed hits up to his body temperature.

I look forward to reading about your opportunistic purchases!

      • That’s why I usually ask my immediate family for a wish list before Black Friday. And if my husband sees the rare item he wants (he hardly asks for anything) at a decent price, I’ve always told him to just go ahead and get it, and I’ll wrap it up!
