This week was quite busy, so I’m tired, and nothing serious springs to mind. So, let’s discuss this superficial topic.
Saturday Question #181:
What Is Your Favorite Perfume Bottle Color?
Most of us do not buy perfumes for bottles. But is there any glass color that makes your heart bit a little faster and wish that you’d like the scent hosted in it?
My Answer
I wish I could say “red”: after all, there are extremely beautiful red bottles. And yes, whenever I see the red edition of Chanel No 5, I wish I had bought it when it was available – even though I’m not too fond of that perfume. But I don’t have a single red bottle in my collection.
So, do I have a favorite color? I do! Blue bottles don’t miss to grab my attention every time! If I weren’t restraining myself, I would have collected at least 2-3 more bottles I don’t need (because I don’t like those perfumes). Luckily, there were several perfumes in blue/navy bottles that I loved and welcomed in my collection.
How about you?

Purple is my favorite. I love the gorgeous purple bottle of Neela Vermeire’s Niral and McQueen’s lovely purple My Queen bottle. Next in line would be blue. Love Goutal’s Nuit Etoilee’ in the dark blue bottle.

I also like purple bottles, but I don’t think I have any of those in by my collection. I would be attracted to purple perfume bottles since it’s one of my favorite colors in general.

Plain mate white is my favorite color.

I have Puredistance White travel spray and Atelier Cologne Mimosa Indigo in white, and I like how they look, but it wouldn’t be my first choice for other perfumes.

I love blue too. Lusting after your Armani La Femme Bleue in that basket. :-)

That Armani splurge was particularly incited by that bottle, but since then it became one of my favorite scents.

I don’t like or dislike coloured bottles. I do like bottles with ribbed glas, e.g. Neela Vermeire’s bottles and some of the Goutal bottles. I also like the Via del Profumo bottles with their beautiful gold Arab motifs and calligraphy.

Le Galion’s bottles are ribbed as well. And Bottega Veneta’s Parco Palladiano collection had a nice etched bottle. I don’t own any of those, but they were first I thought of when I read what you liked.

I own a couple of the Le Galion bottles, pre re-introduction of new bottles, and I love them!

OOOHH! Which Le Galions are in your horde Cynthia?

I have Jasmine, Tulip, and Le Ame Purdue (favorite). Can you recommend a more masculine one? I’d like to get my husband one, while I can still get the older bottles. I like them much more than the new ones. I seem to remember you liked a couple, but can’t remember the names.

I’ve bought perfumes for their bottle shapes before (eg, a lab flask, or a whisky flask), but not for the color… I think I’m attracted to bottles that have some shiny metal on it, whether it’s on the edges, forming a window to the liquid, or on one side.

Interesting: without checking online, can I think of any bottles with metal? I don’t remember any in my collection but a couple of Guerlain in the previous version (with two metal side strips). Gucci Guilty, I think, had some GG cutouts in metal. Gucci Euphoria had metal somewhere… Not sure, but I think Fendi had something along these lines. And now, of course, I’ll start noticing all bottles with metal elements :)

Ted Baker men’s fragrances were shaped like whisky flasks with solid metal. Lancôme Idole has a metal edge, and I was also thinking of Guerlain Le Frenchy’s “window” design but looking it up again, that was a wooden frame.

Blue is my favorite color; blue and purple win for me. Purple – I have an ancient bottle of Avon Imari Seduction that I keep around because it’s ombré purple. I get a kick out of the cap on my Tocadilly cap. But I’m most attracted to a blue bottle even though I don’t have any!

Oh, purple! I almost bought Lalique Amethyst (if I’m not mistaken) just for the bottle! Perfume wasn’t bad either, but I didn’t love it and decided not to buy. But I was close!

Can’t say any particular colour of bottle would draw me in to try the scent.
Looking at my collection I do have a few red & purple bottles though

I’m quite reasonable when it comes to spending money on perfume, so in most cases, I think, I won’t go through with the bottle-color/shape-driven purchase. In most cases ;)

Blue is my favourite colour, I love cobalt blue glass. I haven’t got a single blue bottle in my collection, but perhaps if I buy something from Andy Tauer again??? (my URC from his line is in the older amber coloured bottle, I love that presentation, too). The shape and cap of the bottle is important, too. And I like clean lines.

I have URV, I think, in the same Amber-colored bottle… And I completely forgot that Tauer perfumes come in those beautiful cobalt bottles!

Think fast; original Samsara bottle pops into my mind; must choose red. Pink, too – Angel Muse edt pops into my mind. Tough question! I do love those blue Angel bottles. Off topic, I will say that bottle shape is more of an attraction to me. Thanks, Undina, for a fun topic!

Between a color and a form, I definitely prefer form!
I like the color of older Samsara bottle (hmm… I haven’t worn it in a while… I probably should)

I love a good superficial topic once in a while. Thanks, Undina.
I decided to take a quick visual overview of my collection. It seems that most of the bottles are clear, followed by black, then pops here and there of red, green, blue, white, amber and some gold and silver. Obviously, these purchases were not made solely on my color preference, but the contents within.
If I had to choose a color, I would say clear. Clear glass can be decorated with overall pattern in an endless array of colors. It can be carved or etched with a design. It can also accept mirrored or metallic finishes. Clear glass becomes a great canvas for artistic expression.

Keep it clear and make it solid. I like to see the juice in the bottle and love it best when it’s heavy and substantial. Sorry for the hard week. Wishing you a much more relaxed week to come.

Hey Undina,
NO! This is an excellent question. I have SO MANY answers.
I thunk my absolute favourite is black. The Robert Piguet bottles all look so posh to me. Arpege, Guerlain LPRN Black Perfecto, CHANEL Coco Noir (Though I didn’t buy it because the juice was not my thing), Fort & Manlé, early by Kilian, JPG Kokorico, the rereleases of the Donna Karan Chaos etc, Tom Ford Black Orchid, and many more that don’t spring to mind. Having said that I find the modern Grandiflora bottle awful.
Anything opaque is good for me so I don’t have to worry about light ruining the juice.

Great question! My answer isn’t strictly one color: I love the ombré glass bottles for the Un Jardin series. And lucky me — my nice husband brought me the newest one from Heathrow’s duty-free! It is Un Jardin à Cythère, and I love it.
Aside from the ombré Hermès bottles, I love the blue bottle of Annick Goutal’s Nuit Étoilée, and the red special edition of Chanel No. 5 L’Eau. If I had to choose one color, it would probably be blue.

P.S. I forgot to mention a big love: the pale blue clear glass of Tiffany & Co. Intense’s bottle. It’s gorgeous!

My favorite colored bottles were the Diane Von Ferstenburg ones that Neiman’s used to carry ten years ago. On a shelf together there multi colors reminded me of the colorful stained glass windows I saw in Jaipur at some of the palaces, like multi colored prisms. Unfortunately, the perfumes themselves didn’t appeal as much.
