I’m calling all your lemmings!
Saturday Question #176:
Do You Have Any Perfumes on Your “To Try” List?
Let’s be realistic: it’s not a hypothetical question that calls for something like “original Daim Blond” or “pre-reformulation EL Private Collection.” But are there any currently available perfumes that you haven’t tried yet but would like to?
My Answer
In the last couple of years, I rarely feel an urge to try anything specific. I do still enjoy trying new (for me) things, but I rarely care for anything specific – and even less so if I’d need to pay for a sample.
So, I don’t have a formal “to try” list now. But if I think about it, I can come up with several perfumes I am curious about: several recent releases from Amouage – Guidance, Lineage, Purpose and Search (though, I’m not sure I like the names), Armani Magenta Tanzanite (though I wasn’t a huge fan of the previous “stones” in the collection) and Ormonde Jayne Sakura and Fearless (and while I am at it, any other new perfumes OJ released in the last 2 years).
How about you?

Those Amouages are on my list, plus the re-released version of Parfums MDCI Enlèvement au Sérail. There are also a bunch of new Guérlain releases coming up this fall/winter I’m interested in. But in general I’m not looking for anything, just trying the things I can without paying for samples.

I heard that those new Guerlains are going to be uber-expensive. Do, I’ll try them if I see then at a B&M store, but I’m not paying $6+ per ml to test them.

Finding Guerlain at B&M made me giggle

But why? Our local Neiman Marcus has at least that “art” collection, so there’s a hope they would have extraits as well.

B&M in the UK is like a Pound shop, whereas even the basic Guerlain’s are Dept store. The more expensive ranges are top end Dept stores eg Harvey Nicks that carry them

I see! Sorry, I didn’t know that you have a store with that name! I used it as an acronym for “brick and mortar.” I wonder how many times I was previously misunderstood… :)

If I found Guerlain in B&M it would be supermarket sweep time!

That would be both of us doing a supermarket sweep. Probably killing shoppers on our mad dash round the store !!!

For me the new iris leather from Nicolai. I usually find their offerings to be well made, and I like that they offer the 30ml option. The only others might be the new Aqua Allegoria from Guerlain – one is a rose and the other a vanilla.

I need to catch up on perfumes from Nicolai: I agree that 30 ml bottles are quite appealing.

Wait, wait! Am I first? At least one of the first few! Anyway, I am curious about the new Puredistance, Akro East, Le Labo Mryhe 55, and Lush x Barbie (or the body spray). There are probably a few more but these come to mind.

I don’t care for anything Barbie: I’ll put it to a childhood trauma (should I do a post about it?), but Le Labo sounds interesting.

Sakura for me as well, and FM Heaven Can Wait. And now seeing hajusuuri’s comment, I also want to try Myrrhe 55. Good thing September is not far off.

I do want to test both of those as well. I like FM’s name.

I gave up chasing the new a long time ago. Eventually I stopped obsessively reading about all the newness. Yes I have missed some beauties & the lemming is large when I find them & they are d/ced & now cost $$$$$ on the preloved market. One I am curious about it Penhaligon’s Legacy of Petra but I have loads of ambers. I’m curious as it is myrrh forward & I lem myrrh at present

Yeah, with the amount of new releases it became impossible to keep up anyway.

Not really looking to try anything new. If they fell in my lap I wouldn’t mind trying more from the LT Piver line. I have A La Rein des Fleurs and Heliotrope Blanc and love them both.

I don’t think I tried any perfumes from that line.

I would try anything new from Ormonde Jayne or Nicolaï. But I don’t make much effort these days. So much in my collection to wear!

Raw Gold by Thomas de Monaco, Silphium by Stora Skuggan, and I will be buying the new Guerlain Iris perfume if I can get it when it comes out next month.

I would agree with the Amouage Guidance. I keep seeing posts that this is people’s new holy grail, and I do like incense, so I am curious. I am deciding, however, I just don’t like most gourmands. I keep being susceptible to Luckyscent’s mailing of new releases, many of which are gourmands, and which I eventually order to sample, and out of about 20 samples over the last few months, I’ve found none that move me. *** And I’m also curious about the new Puredistance. I may not love every one, but they are always high quality, interesting scents, to me.

I’m with you on Puredistance!
Gourmands are not my cup of tea either. Not that I would refuse to try them :)

Any new Guerlain is on the must try list, as well as new OJ’s. I also generally try any new Laboratorio Olfattivo scents.

I would probably want to try new Laboratorio Olfattivo perfumes as well, but I don’t follow them closely enough to know when it happens.

There are some earlier releases I would like to try: Bombay Bling and Mohur Extrait. Also a few Hermessences: Santal Massoia, Cedre Sambac and Violette Volynka. And FM Heaven can wait or any new interesting iris for that matter…There is still an April Aromatics I would like to try: Lost in Roses.

I’d like to try FM Synthetic Jungle, and Iris de Fath eau de parfum. I recently tried the latest “Jardin” fragrance from Hermès, Un Jardin à Cythère, and it’s lovely. I see a bottle in my future, to join the rest of the collection! (Yes, I have a thing about completion).

I have similar tendencies with completing sets. Luckily for me, it doesn’t apply to perfumes in the FB format (samples are a different story ;) ).

I have a sample of Synthetic Jungle I could pass onto you? Lmk.

I’m still exploring and discovering new favourites (recently Vero Kern’s Mito). There are a couple of new scents I would like to try; Iris de Fath edp and Myrrh 55. And I have a list of new to me scents that aren’t readily available here; Burvuvu, Le Mat, Chypre Azural, some Paris exclusives from Serge Lutens, a couple of St. Clair scents and some from Angeliki Angelos.

I meant the bell jars. They’re not Paris exclusives I guess, but very difficult to try and get a sample of.
