Saturday Question: What Perfume Would You Wear for Your Wedding Today?

I know, I know: most of my loyal readers are either already married or do not plan to. But it’s my anniversary week, so I have weddings on my mind. And by the power vested in me by WordPress G-ds… Well, since it’s my blog, let’s talk about weddings perfumes.

Saturday Question on Undina's Looking Glass

Saturday Question #171:

What Perfume Would You Wear for Your Wedding Today?

I mean, if you were to get married today, what would be your perfume of choice?

My Answer

Many moons ago, my wedding perfume was my all-time favorite Lancome Climat. So, would it have been today, I would have still chosen it, I think. Though, I might go for my second long-time favorite – Ormonde Jayne Ta’if.

Other contenders for me would be Amouage Gold (though, it would be very similar to Climat), Amouage Dia, Armani La Femme Bleue or Les Parfums de Rosine Rose d’Amour.

How about you?

  1. Mine’s in three weeks! I wore Cristalle (edt) for my wedding – it was quite new then, and unlike anything else I had ever smelt. I wanted something different so that I could associate it with my special day whenever I used it in the future. I still do! And it was perfect for a hot summer’s day.

Hard to know what I would choose now, especially if I went down that route of selecting an entirely new (to me) fragrance.

    I love your selection!

      • Don’t get me started on the reformulation of Cristalle!!!! Discovering about 15 years ago that it no longer smelt the same but being constantly told that Chanel had not changed it is what got me searching for the truth. This led me to the wonderful world of perfume blogs where I found “my people” and learnt that reformulation was real and constant.

I bought a bottle – obviously I still need my wedding perfume in my life – last year. It is a ghost of what it used to be, tame and insipid and lacking that sharp bite I loved, but with enough essence left to bring back the memories. And I have to keep spritzing as it is definitely very diluted now!

  2. I wore Nicki Verfaillie Grain de Sable. Released in 1977, my bottle was purchased in Athens airport in Sept 85.
Fragrantica claims it has calone as a note but I get the same vibe as another favourite, Diorella. Amazingly, when we could send fragrance across the world I was gifted a mini by an unknown donor, possibly through Bois de Jasmin! Kindness itself!
Would I wear it today? Possibly not, it was so of that time in my life.
If I were to marry now? The things that popped into my head are all Chanel! Beige, 31 Rue Cambon & my ride or die Cristalle EdT.

    • I’ve never smelled or even seen Grain de Sable. But now I looked it up.
It’s the second vote for Cristalle. I should revisit it! And I agree with Beige: I think it fits the purpose well.

      • If my memory serves, Calandre sat somewhere between No5 & Cristalle? So, dry, rosy yet fruity. I haven’t sniffed it since the late 70’s & I preferred Metal from that era Paco Rabanne.
It’s funny but the calones of the 90’s made me headachy & nauseous, yet used with a delicate & judicious touch as in GdS & Calyx it adds just the right amount of air into the overripe fruit to stop it being cloying

        • Hah! I loved Metal too – it was one of my favourites; strangely I never wore Calandre (it is only in recent times that I discovered it was similar to GdS). I do not get on with calone either, but GdS never upset me, and Calyx became another beloved fragrance. Whenever I wore that people would sniff me and ask what I was wearing! Ahhh ….. sad that they are gone.

          • Calyx is still around but it’s no longer under the Prescriptives name . I wore it every summer when it was first released and like you always got a lot of compliments.

  3. Happy Anniversary, Undina!
I wore Chanel No.5 Parfum for my wedding. These days I would go with Chanel Cristalle EdT or Masque Milano L’Attesa.

  4. Woo Hoo! Happy Anniversary.
Our wedding Anniversary is the 29th July. Seems like it’s a good month to marry.
Jin and I both wore Neela Vermeire creations. He rocked Bombay Bling and I wore Rahele, now my most worn from the brand. I’d choose it again.

    • Thank you, Portia.

It’s interesting that you got married in July: it’s winter where you live, right? I’m so used to thinking about weddings as of a “warmer months” events.

I like both of your choices (but Jin’s one more :))

      • Yeah, right in the heart of winter Undina. We are both cold weather lovers and it’s always nice to have a function with a feast at that time of year. Also, it’s midway between our birthdays and that year we celebrated 40 and 50, so the wedding was really just a couple of birthday party piss ups with a bit extra.
HA! He will be thrilled to hear it.

  5. Happy Anniversary! I don’t think I even wore perfume on my wedding day 25 years ago. Was not into perfume back then, as sad as that seems! If I were to choose today, I would wear Ormonde Woman for an evening wedding because I adore it; for daytime maybe Chanel Paris-Riviera.

  6. It is a bit too hot here to really think about this question… so with that proviso I would wear AG Songes. We got married on a June monday morning 24 years ago (I never remember the date, my husband does!). It was meant to be administrative with just the two of us, but my parents insisted to be there. It turned out to be a lovely day, with an al fresco lunch in a really good restaurant. I’m not sure if I wore any perfume, best bet would be Beautiful or Trésor. Happy anniversary!

    • Thank you, Hamamelis.

A wedding on Monday sounds even more unusual to me than Portia’s winter wedding. I might be mistaken, but I don’t think it was even possible in my native country back in my time there (but maybe weekends were just a tradition).

Beautiful (especially the older version) would be a great wedding scent.

      • One of the reasons we got married on Monday morning is it was free…I suppose because it was such an unpopular time. I don’t know if that is still the case.

  7. I’d pick Modern Muse. Since you allow us some runner-ups, I might also choose Guerlain Idylle or even Atelier Cafe Tuberosa. I normally want to wear room-fillers and statement-makers, but in thinking about this Saturday Question, I felt that in a happy marriage, a whisper gets more attention than a shout. I was 25 or so years away from the rabbit hole when I married, but I may have worn White Linen or Je Reviens that day. I have no recollection! My bouquet had white flowers in it, so they certainly contributed some scent, but I just don’t recall perfumes per se that day.

  8. Happy Anniversary! Today I would wear Eau d’Italie Fior Fiore, a lovely fresh jasmine fragrance. I don’t recall what perfume, if any, I wore on my actual wedding day.

    • Cartier’s Baiser Vole’ would be another good wedding choice, I think, and Ormonde Jayne’s Champaca. Too bad they weren’t available in 1979! My anniversary is coming up on Aug 25. I’ll celebrate after I get done with all the radiation treatments.

      • I hope you’ll be feeling well enough to celebrate. Take care of yourself, please. I’m glad to see you around.

        Thank you for congratulations.

I’m not familiar with Fior Fiore, but I agree with your other choices, especially Champaca – what a perfect summer wedding scent!

  9. Happy Anniversary! You must have got married quite young?

To answer your question, hypothetically, I would wear Songes edt or edp! And I hadn’t even seen Hamamelis’s comment before making my choice. ;)
