Last week we discussed Les Exclusif de Chanel, so I thought it would be interesting to try another grand house – Dior.
Saturday Question #169:
What Is Your Favorite La Collection Privée Dior?
Do you love any of them? Too many or not at all? Do you own them? Do you wear them? What was the last new one you tried?
My Answer
My relationships with Dior cooled off when they stripped my favorite Miss Dior of its name to promote the “impostor” pink juice (not even in the original kind of interesting formulation!). And then they repackaged their Privée line. I didn’t mind it in principle, but they released so many new perfumes that I felt completely lost and overwhelmed. So, I am not even sure which perfumes I tried and which I didn’t. The last one that I tried and liked was Vanilla Diorama. I don’t want a large bottle of it, but I like it enough to wear it from the sample a friend sent me.
Technically, I do not have a favorite La Collection Privee perfume since 2 I own came from the pre-reformulation La Collection Couturier Parfumeur line. But since “my” perfume is still present in the updated collection, I will nominate it: New Look 1947, the first full bottle I bought from this line. It feels very elegant. It is present but quiet. Slightly powdery, with a exquisitely balanced floral and amber notes. Tenacious but not tiring.
How about you?

Feve Delicieuse and Oud Ispahan.

I liked both when I tried them many moons ago. OI surprised me since I rarely like agarwood in perfumes.

LOVE this line Undina.
Sadly DCd my most worn is Granville. All about lemon and herbs it is so perfectly blended and works in all weathers. I panic bought a VERY large bottle when word of its demise was spread but I still haven’t even touched the sides of my initial bottle. There’s enough juice here to wear it as my signature for about 10 years.
1947 is gorgeous. Mine is from the Couturier line also.

Granville was pleasant, but I couldn’t get on with paying a private line price for citrus-centric perfume (in today’s prices, as I can see, it wasn’t that bad :) ).

HA! It was expensive then and though the market has exploded I think it still quite expensive. Its enormous lasting power of citrus is the big win for me. Most others seem to die a quick death. So it is special enough for me to pay the extra.

Hard to say, depends on my mood. But probably Mitzah.

Mitzah is good. Too bad I won’t be able to wear it for another 4-5 months (I prefer it in cool weather).

My favorite La Collection Privee is Mitzah. There were so many DCd / not rumors that I decided that I will no longer be agonized by it and I am rather pleased with my bottle! My history was one where I couldn’t get a sample until I had a brilliant idea of bringing my own atomizer to the boutique and they let me decant until the manager ran me out of the store 🤣. I got 3mL out of that.

Nice work!

HA! I do that too Hajusuuri. Mostly they’re pretty nice about it but sometimes I hit a bear as well.

Mitzah is my second bottle. I like it, but I don’t have enough time to wear it since it works for me only during colder months, which we don’t have enough of.

I haven’t really explored any of this line. Or any of the regular line, come to think of it. My experience with Dior has mostly been limited to my vintage find of Poison and a tiny vintage Diorella.

There are at least a couple worth trying if you get a chance, but nothing groundbreaking to pay for the privilege :)

I have a mini of Eau Noire that I never wear. I don’t dislike it but I don’t know what occasion would call for smelling like a herbal liquorice allsort.
I have a decant of Mitzah which is an autumn/winter wear. Too generic an amber to be worth the price when it was available.
I used to adore Dior but then the house became the “flankerville” & I lost interest in all but the classics & vintage lines.
I’m hoping Capt Kurk will put the brakes on the multiple flankers of J’Adore et al.

I’m also curious what would happen to the brand “under the new management.”
I think that Mitzah was much more unique and original when it was first released. You know, it’s like with a phrase that becomes cliche because initially it was good and catchy.

My decant may not be the first release admittedly. I have so many ambers & reclassified vanilla ambers or whatever we’re calling them this week, Mitzah probably got lost in the noise.

Dior is super hard to get here so haven’t really tried them. I have a decant of Mitzah, which I love. After that I have Diorella , Diorissimo, and Escale a Portofino.
Years ago I worked at Chateau Lake Louise, and a friend worked the Dior counter. I got so many GWP – without the purchase lol, and so many red lipsticks. I really love this line because of those nice memories. My mom bought some Dior cosmetics, too, and I have those cases. I loved their makeup for summer and bout a back up of the blue nail polish-think it’s called Eden Roc.

It’s interesting that Dior isn’t widely available where you live. It’s not super-available here as well, but I know several places where it can be tried. So, I didn’t realize that it was such a “niche” brand :)
I used to love their GWPs, and for years I timed my purchases from them to the times when they offered those. But then GWPs became more rare and less interesting – and I stopped buying from the brand.

I have a small decant of Mitzah, ambers are my favorite so I enjoy it. Have had tiny samples of a few others but nothing that was remarkable enough to pursue further. I so rarely buy anything any more…

I like Mitzah too!

I only have some samples and a couple of decants of the Dior Privees that I have used up. The Dior Privees are difficult to sample for me since I don’t live in a major city where I can just go to a Dior boutique or department store to sample them. Of the ones I have tried, I really like Feve Delicieuse and wish I had purchased a larger decant of it. I also liked New Look 1947 and Lucky, which is a muguet centered fragrance. I owned a small bottle of Rose Kabuki but I didn’t love it so I sold it.
Except for the ambery, spicy Dior Privees I find them generally too lightweight and ‘thin’ for my taste. I liked Lucky and Rose Kabuki, but both seemed ‘watery’ on my skin and completely evanescent, here one minute, and gone the next. If I pay a lot of $ for a fragrance I want it to last a few hours, not a few minutes.

I agree with the “watery” part: I had exactly the same impression.
I have a couple of samples from the newer releases (including Lucky) – I need to retry them.

I like New Look 1947, La Colle Noire, and also Gris Dior (which used to be Gris Montaigne).

You reminded me, I do really like La Colle Noire. I should try to get a nice decant of it before it’s discontinued.

I liked Gris (I think, in both formulations). If I had a chance to test it more, I could have bought it.

Ambre Nuit? Is that one of them? Then that. Am not too familiar with the line, though I also like New Look 1947.

Yes!!! Ambre Nuit is my only strong favorite from the line for which I have only a decant.

Ambre Nuit and the leather Cuir Cannage are my picks. But if I had to pick between the two I would go with Ambre Nuit. Love the rose in that one.

I like Ambre Nuit very much. And for me, it always was about rose more than about amber.

A recent favourite from the line, dear Undina: Eden-Roc. A very posh aquatic.
