So, a couple of days ago, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow predicting 6 more weeks of Winter. For us, perfumistas, it also means more time to wear “heavy-heaters” in our collections. How do you feel about that?
Saturday Question #151:
Are You Tired Of Winter [Perfumes] Yet?
I’m interested in answer to both questions. How is your winter this year? Do you enjoy it? Are you “done” with it and ready for the next season? How about winter perfumes? Did you have enough of them, or do you look forward to more time with them? Which perfumes are in your current rotation?
My Answer
I just have to brag! I love-love-love this winter! I mean, Northern California winters are always quite good. But this year, even though it’s slightly colder than it was in the last couple of years (today it was +8C/+46F at night and +17C/+62F during the day), it is RAINING (!), which is great after years of drought. Of course, now we have the opposite problem in some places, but in general it is really good. And I’m happy with the weather.
Also, since it’s cool, I enjoy wearing my “winter” perfumes that I neglected last year. I can’t say that any of perfumes is “in rotation” since I wear a different one every day. If not to count Papillon Artisan Perfumes Hera: since I have just a small sample, I decided to wear it until it is finished: I know that eventually I will buy a full bottle of it (I’m trying my best not to break my “no-buy” for now), so I don’t want my sample to evaporate while I’m waiting. So, I wear Hera at least once a week, and by my estimate I have more “wears” left.
Other perfumes I enjoyed recently: Puredistance Rubikona and 12, Teo Cabanel Alahine and Floris Honey Oud. (I do not wear Fleur de Lalita now: the photo below is there for Rusty’s shadow and not perfume.)
Speaking of Rusty, he, on the other hand, doesn’t enjoy winter: he clearly prefers sunny days when he can sunbathe at the window.
How about you?
I am not a winter person so I eagerly look forward to spring and warmer weather. I haven’t really been wearing my “winter” fragrances but that isn’t an issue because I often tend to wear them in the summer…I like how they bloom in the heat.

Hello!
Your winter sounds quite nice, and I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I’m with Rusty-I’d like sunshine and warm temps, please!
I live in eastern Canada, and we’re having some kind of extreme weather. It’s -27C , and about -45 with the wind chill. the winds are high, there’s light powdery snow swirling everywhere and I really don’t care for it-it’s dangerously cold. My cat is making a weird howling sound as she looks out the window. It’s supposed to be -17 by this afternoon and I’m really looking forward to that-that’s just a cold day.
In terms of perfume I’ve been wearing a lot of Leau d’Hiver and I love how delicate it smells in the cold air-it’s so beautiful. I have a small sample of Iris Poudre and I’m enjoying it a lot, too. It’s funny-I have things like Shalimar, and Le Lion, which smell great in cold winter air-but apparently I need something less opulent, for the time being.
Praying for an early spring :)

I am praying with you :) We must be in the same Arctic blast. Pickles, Wedge and Squirrel are also not happy with our weather today.

That is an extreme cold! I wouldn’t care for it either. Stay warm!
I like Iris Poudre and still have probably 1/3 of my original bottle. I haven’t tried the most recent version but hope it is still good.

I’m trying to thunk my huge box of unloved samples & decants along with Portia. Unless I have an overwhelming urge to wear something I own a FB of.
I pulled out Dior Mitzah earlier this week. It’s a decant from when it was first released, yet I’ve hardly made a dent in it. It’s started to evaporate so it went into the lucky dip box.
Mitzah is beautiful, winter spiced amber as you all know. Yet I miss out on a FB largely cos I ran off to try the next newness.
In short, no I’m not fed up of winter fragrances. I am fed up of winter weather cos we haven’t been able to take our usual winter sun holiday to top up our vitamin D

Mitzah is a great winter scent, I enjoyed wearing it as well recently.
I’m surprised that you didn’t know who Punxsutawney Phil was. Did you not see the Groundhog Day movie (with Bill Murray)? Or did you just not remember the name of the weather forecaster? Since it’s one of my favorites, I assumed everyone knows it. Sorry.

Never seen Groundhog Day. I have a problem with films. As a lifelong insomniac films generally manage to send me to sleep. Even loud action movies at the cinema!

BTW who is Punxsutawney Phil?
LikeLike
He’s the gopher who predicts whether there will be 6 more weeks of winter weather if he sees his shadow or an early spring if he doesn’t. I don’t know his track record because I did not check and / or because weather could vary quite a bit within these here parts.

Like my grandad who could smell when it would snow. He taught me too.
The UK used to have a very eccentric chap who used to predict the coming season from seaweed, leaves, animal behaviours & bark. Can’t remember what he was called but his methods may have had some science.
Not sure about seeing his shadow, wouldn’t that depend on the direction he’s facing?

No clue. The equivalent of Punxsutawney Phil in various places had some notoriety from biting Mayor Michael Bloomberg to another one biting Mayor Bill Deblasio, who then dropped it and who eventually died (not the mayor).

Autumn and winter are my favourite seasons perfume wise. I love spicy fragrances, amber, leather, incense and chypres and the colder weather suits them better I think. The thought of being able to wear my favourite fragrances again is what cheers me up at when the summer is ending and it starts to get colder and darker. So no, I’m not fed up with them yet.
As for the weather, that’s a whole different question. I’m really looking forward to springtime and a bit more sunshine. These grey and cloudy days are just horrible.

Yeah, I also prefer fall/winter perfume season. But I don’t miss cold-cold weather.

I’ve had a good winter, such as it is in San Diego. I did spend three werks in Montréal in January, getting out just before the snowstorm and polar blast artived, so it was very enjoyable. I’m still very much enjoying my winter perfumes and not anxious to switch to spring florals.

I wouldn’t mind a day or two of a real winter with snow and cooler temperatures, but not as extreme as it got in many regions this year.

I love winter except when it snows. So far so good. This weekend is super cold and I decided to work at home yesterday (even though I was supposed to be in the office); however, I have to be outside today as I am going to an Escape Room adventure with 3 friends. 🥶
As to perfumes, I wear what I want all year long although I do tend to wear the really light euas (mostly the Guerlain Aqua Allegorias) when it’s warm in the northeast U.S.

I hope your escape room adventure went fine (I assume that under being outside you meant getting to and from it and not that being an outdoor activity – which would have been strange for something that has a word “room” in its name :) ).

I have had the delightful experience of your SoCal weather in February!! I lived in the South, where the seasons are less pronounced. But I am a confirmed 4-season lover, and my very cold Midwestern Winter this year is something I like to experience, fully-bundled including a calf-length down coat, hat, earmuffs, gloves and *wool knee socks.* I am warm outside (if nerdy-looking – I just like to be outside). I find it exasperating to scrape frost off the car, but somehow, shoveling the driveway is sort of fun even as making myself get up early in the dark to shovel is not. Most schools and offices are very ready to close or give flex days anymore, so doesn’t it seem that we don’t have to get out to work, on time, in actively bad weather as much? Perfume-wise, I love my heavies all year round. I recently went on a GoBH Red spree. Yesterday, I warmed up with Coco edp. Otherwise, I’ve been trying a lot of different perfumes. I am not much on herbal, citrus-y scents any time of year. Stay warm all!

Even reading about shoveling snow and scraping ice from a car makes me shiver! :) Morning + cold is a scary combo for me.
We used to enjoy a couple of snowy days per year on a ski trip, but somehow those trips got less frequent (even before Covid-19), so by now I haven’t seen snow in 4-5 years. And I don’t miss it :) But I would be sad if I couldn’t wear my cold(er) weather perfumes. So, tropical island living isn’t for me either.

I am always done with winter, lol. Although it hasn’t been that bad until these few days with the subzero temps. January was gloomy over 90% of the time in my area, so I’ll take the sunshine even if it comes with the cold. I haven’t been limiting myself to any particular kinds of perfumes, but have been making a point to wear some of my lesser-worn ones during this time—probably also because I go out less so the stakes are lower. Have a great weekend!

I don’t like cold, but I don’t mind gloomy weather since I also don’t like sun or hot weather.

I prefer autumn and winter, at least here in Pittsburgh. Spring is gray and miserable, and summer gets hot and humid. Autumn is by far the best, but I have always been fine with cold and snow, I just wish the temperatures would not yo-yo so much. Each year my daffodils start to come up during an unseasonably warm winter patch, and then the greens get frozen out for several months. I love amber perfumes, so I don’t get tired of wearing them at all! Some can be worn all year, but many are just too much for summer.

I always feel bad when flowers or trees get “tricked” by the weather this way.
While I still lived with all 4 seasons, I liked spring the most: even though it also was wet and cold and very unstable, it was a promise, an end of an even more unpleasant winter.

I love winter and all the warm, cozy fragrances. I want at least 2 more months of chilly weather. I’m loving Alahine, Barkhane, Lutens’ Chergui and Ambre Sultan, Frapin If and CDG incense fragrances Zagorsk and Querzazate.
We had one quite warm day last week, though, and I did spray on a spring fragrance, Chloe Atelier Herba Mimosa, which I really love. It’s light, bright, and really nice, my favorite of all my mimosa fragrances so far. I also enjoy Fragonard Belle de Arles, which has a similar mimosa vibe. I’ll wear both of these often in the spring I’m sure.
For in between weather I’m loving Ormonde Jayne’s Montabaco Cuba and Montabaco Fleur, both glorious. I recommend sampling them if you get a chance.

I should wear Barhane while it’s still cold! I forgot that I bought it last year.

When I moved to the south from the upper Midwest 20 years ago I couldn’t have been happier about the sunny less severe winters. That has changed in recent years. I now dread Februarys. Some perfumes I wear all year round. Other than those few I have definite seasonal favorites. I’m not yet tired of my winter perfumes but I’m looking forward to wearing short sleeves and letting perfume waft all around me!

I’m a long-sleeve person! I like a light-cardigan-type weather.
I would have worn some of my perfumes all year round, but I have enough perfumes that fit only the specific season (for me, I mean) – so, I almost always wear perfumes “seasonally.”

How funny – your night time temperatures would be a relatively warm day here! I am still wearing winter perfumes – currently testing vintage Samsara parfum(!) which I am supposed to be selling for a friend, along with her entire collection from around that era. I would list the bottles on my blog in case anyone was interested, but would probably get “cancelled” by Blogger, as I did for hosting giveaways around the time of my anniversary – it took all those posts down. Anyway, I digress, but as it is still pretty cold…as evidenced by my persistent chilblains that I have had since November…I am cheerfully wearing orientals and cosy woody / vanilla numbers for the foreseeable future.

Just in case Blogger misbehaves again, you’re welcome to use my blog to list your bottles: I have several readers from the UK.
Samsara is great! Though, I still think that it has a lot in common with EL Tuscany per Donna and FM Iris Poudre :)

Why thank you. My card is definitely marked in terms of any kind of promotional activity on Blogger, while the Royal Mail has twice warned me for attempting to send partial bottles overseas. Your blog could still be a helpful platform, even though you are in the US. Will be in touch when I get down to it. I thought of the UK Fragrance Swap / Split / Sell site too.

That’s not really the way I work Undina, It’s summer, so I do summer things and wear mostly summer style fragrance. There needs to be some more summer so a lot more of my frags that fit the season can get a wear. I’ve barely scratched the surface.

I think, for me summer is the least favorite season (in the area where I live now, that is).
