Saturday Question: What Is Your Favorite Amouage Perfume?

My living space is almost back to normal after the flooding accident a month ago, and I’m back with a Saturday Question.

Saturday Question on Undina's Looking Glass

Saturday Question #294:

What Is Your Favorite Amouage Perfume?

Have you tried their newer collections (The Odyssey or The Essences)? What do you think about the new bottles for The Essences collection? Do you follow the brand’s new releases?

My Answer

It has been several decades since I’ve done (or even closely witnessed) any home remodeling. Now I have validation of all my fears about that and reluctance to entertain any serious work where I live. It proved to be quite disruptive, even though all the crews that worked on addressing the consequences of the unfortunate fire sprinkler incident were very fast and professional. But as I said, it’s almost over, and I started feeling more inclined to get back to less serious undertakings, such as blogging or testing perfumes.

Historically, Amouage was one of my “Top 5 Favorite Brands”, and when answering the SQ question “An Ambassador of What Brand Would You Like to be?”, I chose that brand as my #1 contender, which says a lot about how I feel about their perfumes. It also wouldn’t be hard for me to name my most favorite Amouage perfume, since Ubar (sadly discontinued) is one of my top 3 all-time favorites. But I can easily name another 5 that I enjoy wearing.

All of my Amouage “loves” belong to their Main Collection. The only two perfumes from later-released collections that I wear are Love Mimosa (The Secret Garden Collection) and Guidance (The Odyssey Collection). I don’t think I’ll ever need more of the former once my decant is gone, but I would love to add the latter to my collection eventually (even though I don’t need any more FBs).

I haven’t seen a bottle from The Essence Collection in RL yet, but I like how they look online, and I’m waiting for a couple of samples from that collection in my recent Luckyscent order, hoping both to like and not to like those perfumes, since $475 still feels like an insane price for a single bottle (especially given the size of my collection).

How about you?

  1. I am embarrassed to say that I have only tried one Amouage ever – someone shared a decant of Sunshine with me years ago. So I can’t really answer this one! Glad the repairs are almost complete! It’s still cold here despite a few warm days so I’m not switching over to spring perfumes yet.

  2. I have not tried too many, but I have and enjoy Opus III, Lilac Love, Myths, and Ubar. I have a sample of Opus VIII, which was very powerful and I’ve hesitated to revisit it. I also have samples of Fate and the new Guidance, which I really like, but overall, I find Lilac Love the most wearable.

  3. Glad you’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with the restorations. I haven’t tried many Amouage perfumes, but I enjoyed the Exceptional Extraits collection and bought a bottle of Interlude 53 Man when I caught a good discount. That’s the only Amouage I own. Didn’t even know they had a new bottle shape as I’ve really been out of the loop… but after looking it up, have to say I prefer the old one.

  4. I find many of the latest Amouage releases less intriguing and, to be honest, a bit dull. I believe I’ve had the privilege of experiencing some of the brand’s finest creations, such as Tribute Attar from 2009, Reflection Man, Lyric Man, Jubilation XXV Man, Memoir Man, Interlude Man, and several from the Opus Library Collection, with Opus IV being my personal favorite. These fragrances all possess remarkable character, while many of the ones I’ve sampled since 2020 have fallen short. Don’t get me wrong, they’re still pleasant, but they pale in comparison to the exceptional releases of the past.

  5. Hey Undina,
LOVE Amouage. There is a large box of them here.
My most worn is Uber but I recently discovered that my Love Mimosa was missing so bought a brand new one. It’s my favourite.
I also wear Gold Man, Dia woman extrait and Interlude man regularly.

  6. I only own Lyric Woman EdP now. I did have Gold Woman Extrait & Ubar. Sadly, I had to sell on a number of full bottles quickly many years ago to help my son out when he lost his job. Ubar was one I sold despite adoring it. I knew it would sell quickly for good money. Some loves are bigger than perfume. Gold was sold in my last big clear out. She is beautiful but my aldehydic loves are all from Chanel. Lyric Woman will have to be prized from my claws despite my wearing her only occasionally.
I admit to losing interest in recent years when they began churning out so many new releases

  7. You must be relieved your living space is almost back to normal, and hopefully you will forget about the hassle soon and just enjoy it.

I have a ‘travel spray’ of Gold. I bought it on a Dutch equivalent of Ebay, and I suspect it is the very first edition of Gold. The travelspray is very heavy, in a sort of mosque tower form, and can double as a weapon! Anyway the fragrance is gorgeous, although I don’t wear it often. I have a normal travelspray of Lyric and Journey both gorgeous but not wearing it often. I have a fullish bottle (also bought on the Dutch ‘ebay’) of Ashore which is lovely in summer.
