Can you believe it – I didn’t ask this question before? I was sure that we did it at some point and planned to ask anyway since it was long ago. But I checked – and no.

Which Are Your Top 5 Favorite Brands?
You do not have to give away or stop wearing any of the brands you won’t include. You do not need to rank these five – unless you want to, of course. These are not necessarily brands that are represented the most in your collection. And you can change your mind tomorrow. But today, please make an effort and choose just 5.
My Answer
My perfume database currently contains 388 brands. It doesn’t mean that I own even a sample from all of them, but I tested at least one of their perfumes at some point. I could have also tested some additional brands but didn’t think I would ever be interested in their perfumes – so, those experiences haven’t been recorded.
I selected top 3 without thinking or looking in my records – Ormonde Jayne, Amouage and Puredistance. Each of these brands have numerous perfumes I enjoy wearing, and while there were releases that didn’t work for me, each of them had something new that I liked quite recently.
But then it took me some time to choose the last two. I like many individual perfumes, but that doesn’t mean that I like the brand. For some brands I have multiple bottles, but then I start thinking about their most recent releases, and I’m not sure if I like them any longer. Finally, after sifting through the list, I decided on Chanel and Masque Milano. (I have to clarify: I do not like Chanel as a brand, but I like their perfumes.)

I am glad you clarified that one doesn’t have to like all the perfumes in a brand, or even possess any or actually like the brand itself! I share some favourites with you – Ormonde Jayne, Amouage and Chanel (against my better judgement, but then Cristalle was my wedding perfume, so that’s very special, and I often wear No 19). I like Nicolai, and also Frederic Malle (mainly cos I am addicted to Synthetic Jungle).
At one time Guerlain would have appeared in my top 5, but they have been disappointing to me lately.

Annick Goutal, Frederic Malle, Chanel, Guerlain, and Hermes. And I’ve thought about it (usually when I’m driving and trying to amuse myself) if I had to have one desert island scent it would probably be Eau d’hadrian EDT. It works for all the occasions one might have living alone on a desert island, Castaway style.
It’s a very cold dark day here and I’m going to do some studying for a course I want to take, I’m going to organize four drawers of clothing, and I’m going to burn some the nice candles I have. The windows are open andI can smell LOTV, roses, lilacs, and wet grass. The cat smells like all of these things as she comes and goes throughout the day.

Great question! Top 5 brands: Neela Vermeire, Chanel, Annick Goutal, Vero Profumo, Hiram Green (close call with April Aromatics). I splurged on Eshal and adore it!

My top five.
Serge Lutens simply resonates with my personality. I believe Amouage has a signature depth that many others lack, but that seems to be changing over time. The now-defunct Crown Perfumery Co. remains an easy perfume to wear, with its classic construction and divine scent profiles. Guerlain, well, there aren’t many I don’t like, and I have many old favorites. Puredistance is unique and unforgettable.

I’m also surprised you hadn’t asked this before, and it’s not that easy… in alphabetical order, Atelier Materi because I liked most of their perfumes and would be interested in smelling their new output, Fischersund for a similar reason and their visual/multisensory aesthetics, Hermès, Parfum d’Empire, and 4160Tuesdays particularly for the education aspect and so many creative collaborations. It turns out that liking a brand isn’t exactly parallel to liking a perfume, although some of my favorite perfumes do come from these brands…

It’s not an easy question, but it’s a good one. I’m going to go with brands I own the most fragrances from: Chanel, Dior, Frederic Malle, Guerlain and Hermès.
