Farewell to Rusty

Rusty is no longer with us.

I hoped he would be one of those long-living cats living beyond 20 years. He was mostly healthy for the first 14+ years of his life, but then suddenly it was as if his body had exhausted its resources, and multiple issues started appearing within a couple of months.

Last November, he was diagnosed with heart failure. His condition wasn’t encouraging. In December 2023, when I started on IG my traditional “count up to Rusty’s 15th birthday on Christmas Eve,” we weren’t sure he’d survive that long. But I hoped that maybe sending something positive into the Universe would return in the form of some luck for Rusty.

We fought for him, and he gifted us with an extra 8 months together.

It hurts. For 15 years, Rusty was a member of our family and one of the most joyful parts of our lives. Two weeks after we had to let him go, I’m still coming to terms with the realization that he isn’t here. He was such a wonderful, social, well-natured, curious, slightly mischievous, funny, cuddly cat!

I am an adult. And I know that it doesn’t work like that. But just in case I don’t know something about the Universe, and whoever is reading this has such a power: I WANT MY RUSTY BACK!

  2. This is so heartbreaking. Rusty always seemed like the best cat, so curious and loving (also a little tricky). I loved seeing him in your posts. It is never easy to lose a pet but, at least you can be sure he appreciated the love you gave him every day!

  5. Undina I am so sorry to hear about Rusty’s passing. It is going to hurt for a long while, but as someone much wiser than me said – it’s the price we pay for loving. I enjoyed his contributions to the perfume reviews.

  6. I’m sure Rusty lived those extra 8 months through your sheer devotion to him. That doesn’t make it hurt any less and I’m so sorry for this painful loss.

Rusty was the most characterful cat I’ve ever come across. His unique, human-like personality really came over in your posts and photos. He will be much missed by us all. Sending you both so much love and hugs.

  7. I’m so sorry for your loss.❤️‍🩹 For me he was always the most handsome and most wonderful cat in the blogosphere. Through your photos he felt like my cat friend. Even when I felt that the whole perfume community was off in a direction I didn’t enjoy so much as I used to, your blog and the Rusty photos were always great highlights for me. He might not come back, but thanks to you, he will live on in our memories and be forever linked to your wonderful stories and ULG.

    RIP dear Rusty.🌟

  8. Oh Undina my deepest sympathies. I know how much Rusty meant to you both and I can’t imagine how much you miss him. And he brought such joy to your readers as he was a character deeply entwined with your perfumed posts. I can be for certain though that he was greatly loved and he knew it and he led an incredible life. Big hugs and hopefully he met my Duncan across the rainbow bridge. I have the feeling that they would get along famously. xoxoxoxo

  9. What a sad news. Having had to say farewell over the years to two beloved cats (one of them could have been Rusty’s brother in character, not in looks) and two equally loved dogs, I can only say that with the passing of time the sharp edges of loss will fade, and will be replaced by the softest of memories. Wishing you and your VsO much strength. We all will miss beautiful funny Rusty!

  11. I’m so sorry for your loss. It never gets easy. The pain of losing an animal companion is real & deep. Please take comfort in knowing that you gave him the best life possible and he was surrounded by love.

  12. I’m so very sorry for your loss. Rusty was such a beautiful pet, and that mane of orange fur! I was rereading an older post, and Rusty was in it. He disliked the scent so much he had to get away. The first picture was Rusty giving the fragrance the side eye, and the second he leapt over the back of the chair, and we got a shot of his furry hindquarters! I’m glad there are so many pictures of him.

It hurts so much to lose a pet. Please look after yourself during this difficult time.

  14. Oh dear, I hoped this day would never come, but sadly animals don’t live anywhere near as long as they should. Rusty was such a character and very much the mascot of your blog – so engaging and interactive with your perfume bottles, and any other interesting objects that crossed his path. It makes me smile to remember those photos, and I hope they will bring you comfort too.
