WTD, Episode 2.6: Nature by Yves Rocher

Nature by Yves RocherNature was the first perfume I bought from Yves Rocher. Many years ago I found it in a store and fell in love with it. I liked everything about it – the scent, the bottle and even the name. I didn’t like the price: Yves Rocher was an expensive brand in the country where I lived back then. But I was drawn to that leaflike bottle and after two-three staring matches with it in a showcase I built up the nerve to approach it. I bought  a mini bottle which cost me more than I’ve ever paid afterwards for any full size bottle from Yves Rocher. But that was all I could afford at the time and I felt very happy. The small bottle on the picture is that first bottle of Nature perfume. It’s almost 20 years old.

In a couple of years after moving to the U.S., I discovered Yves Rocher’s website and ordered a full bottle of Nature EdP. It became my favorite spring-summer scent. I went through almost the entire bottle but it was too large and came in a splash version with a stopper. So even though I was very careful with decanting it for a daily use, the remaining 20% of juice went off. By that time the perfume was gone from the U.S. market. I was sad but I didn’t think I could do anything about it (eBay came into my life much later).

A year ago I found out that the perfume, the loss of which I had been mourning, was still available from Yves Rocher websites in Europe (France, U.K. and Germany). A friend of mine brought it for me from the business trip. I was joyful and fearful at the same time; and for a while I was afraid to open it: what if it smells different now? What if I do not like it anymore? What if…

Nature by Yves RocherI still like it. Not the idea or my memory of it but the actual perfume. I wear it gladly when it’s warm. It’s a happy bright floral green scent. It’s sun in a bottle. Notes include mandarin, crushed mint leaves, freesia, jasmine, lily of the valley, rose, bark, cedar and moss. I couldn’t find when it was created or who the nose behind it was.

I decided to finish earlier the weeklong test drive season of Yves Rocher perfumes with this episode about Nature – one of my all-time favorites. I’m not sure how good it is objectively or how likeable it is subjectively. But I’m offering you to judge about it on your own. If you ever left a comment in my blog OR I ever commented on any topic in your blog, just leave a comment before the end of May 26th that you’d like to try it – and I will send you a sample vial of Nature by Yves Rocher.

  1. I have tried it, so don’t need to try it again, but I wanted to say I really like this post! The difference between liking the memory of something and liking the thing itself can often be a very big difference, so I’m glad you actually like the perfume. And, I love that you still have your first bottle!

    • That’s what I tried to stress out. I’m glad it did go through. Over the years I accumulated a number of perfumes that I remember I like but then I never really wear them.

  2. Undina, what a pretty perfume bottle — and a lovely description of not only the fragrance itself, but how significant its presence has been in your scented life since you bought your first bottle.

    Your photos are wonderful, too.

No need to send me a sample: just wanted to comment on the loveliness of your post!
