While reading other people’s blogs I caught myself wishing they had somewhere a condensed list of their perfume loves, likes, maybe even dislikes. So I decided to make my own list and update it from time to time – just in case I’m not alone in my curiosity. My posts, links to which you see after some perfume names, usually aren’t traditional reviews but rather stories from my life related to those perfumes.

Undina the perfume portrait is great Idea! It has definitely inspired me and I will add a similar page to my blog. This is really the best way to get to know a perfume lover.

Please do steal it! It would be so great if all my favorite bloggers painted their perfumed portraits. Who knows in what stories that might result…

What an AWESOME idea!! I actually had decided to start a regular column called “Perfume Love” where I talk about the scents I love and why – they’d be less reviewy and totally biased :D So this fits totally!
Stealing (with credits of course). I’ll let you know when I have successfully stolen ;)

Just thought I’d share an idea: On top of my perfume portrait, I also put my favourite notes. I think for the “TLDR” crowd it’s nice as they can then see what notes they also love. It also helps explain what aspects of your favourites you might love.

Wanted to add: Sometimes a long list of unknown perfume names can be daunting to a new person. A lit of notes is accessible to even the newest of perfumistas.

I’ll think about it. I’m not sure if I can come up as of now with the list of notes I like. For me a lot depends on a combination.

Great idea! I will definitely do my own soon! I like knowing what frags people want to try, too.

Goodness! I had a full bottle of Eau de Charlotte and Eau de Camille which I gifted away as I was “verboten” to wear either by co-worker and hubby! Had I known I would have sent them your way! I did however save a drop of eau de camille..have you gotten a chance to try it yet? I love your list and see that a few Annick Goutals are on it! Long story of my introduction to this niche line but I adore the originals very much (not as familiar with the newer offerings).

Annick Goutal is one of my favorite brands even though I do not love all of their perfumes.
I haven’t tested all I wanted to yet but I’m getting there.
I can see your partner not liking one of those perfumes but I’m really surprised about co-workers: AG’s perfumes are so light (well, most of them) that I can hardly imagine anybody bothered by them (unless they hug you ;) ).

I have the great misfortune of sharing a room with a co-worker who hates all perfume (except anything manufactured by the Clean line- she likes laundry detergent smells only). Hubby has seasonal allergies and in the spring and fall (with the exception of pure essential oils applied judiciously) he is overtaken with nausea and headaches which get exacerbated with perfume!
Eau de Camille is heavy on the green and Eau de Charlotte is a rich cocoa blackberry so neither of the two worked for both co-worker or hubby. I just hate hearing the complaints and having to scrub my wrists/neck silly after applying :) !! I too love AG. the hotel I was staying in while in paris (1994) had the Eau D’hadrien toilettries and I dragged my poor friend ALL over paris trying to find the flagship store! Ironically when we did find it I ended up buying a bottle of Eau de Ciel. When I got back to the States I discovered that SAKS in NYC (where I resided at the time) had these seasonal specials of BOGO so I was able to get TWO 100ml bottles of AG for $98 !!! Can you imagine? I went crazy and must of bought 10 bottles in less than a year!

That’s quite a story! :)
I’m sorry about the situation with perfumes in your life. Hopefully, you’ll find time/perfumes to wear around both people. But I must say: if I couldn’t wear perfumes I like to work my co-worker could forget any perfumes – Clean or not. I would have kept complaining about the laundry detergent smell ;)
LikeLike
I have learned of clever ways around this…I can use essential oils without complaints from both all year round so I have made a few blends that other co-workers have asked me to share with them (not everyone hates fragrance at my job :) !!).On days that co-worker is out I spray with reckless abandonment and become a silage monster! and I also have lovely scented hand creams, body moisturizers and body oils (jojoba, sesame, etc) that I add essential oils to. Last fall I wore nothing but patchouli in unscented sweet almond oil…it was fabulous and my sweaters had remnants of the glorious scent for days! Finally, I drink quite a bit of floral, aromatic teas both at home and at work so I get to taste as well as smell that which I enjoy! Not all is lost :) !!

This list is great! Where do you keep what must be an enormous collection? I’m a fragrance newbie and appreciate your posts for reference. Thanks!

Hi filmoyster!
My collection isn’t that huge: I do not own full bottles for all of the perfumes from the categories above. Many of them are in travel bottles or decants. I keep the bottles on two shelves in the walk-in closet and decants and samples in drawers.

This list is so comprehensive and so big that I feel ridiculous with my little bunch of bottles. But it’s nice to know what someone else in the know likes, and I had wondered if you had ever tried Unter den Linden!
LikeLike
Blacknall, I want to clarify that I definitely have bottles only for the first category. Everything else is not necessarily even a travel bottle in the collection – some of them are, but the majority are decants.

Hi Julia! I love your perfume portrait and think it’s such a lovely idea :) We have many in common – I LOVE the OJ line, and NV’s Bombay Bling! and Ubar are 100% on my “perfumes I love & don’t want to be without”! For OJ, OJ Woman would be on that list for me. Now I’m going to have to check out some of your other loves :) I live in northern CA too – in Humboldt County. I loved looking at this list and I, like chez Marzipan, love that Berdoues is on the list so I can go and try them out now that we have Berdoues in Montréal! You and I started our blogs around the same time… 2010 – 2011. And, we both love telling stories around our perfumes. I WILL write perfume reviews but they’re not my favourite posts. A long list of notes, blah, blah, blah.
You’re an excellent writer.
