Laughs, Lemmings, Loves – Episode 28

It has been a while since I did my weekly round-up post. It wasn’t because there was a lack of great posts falling into one of the categories I cover: Lemmings – posts that make me want to try (or to buy) a perfume they describe; Laughs – posts that made me laugh (or at least smile); Loves – posts about perfumes I love and wear. But a holiday season combined with the year-end work running-around made my blogs reading irregular and I was usually catching up days later.

Now I’m back and here’s the first post in the series for this year. It’s unusually cold in our area (0C/32F at night – I know, all of you in places with real winters laugh at that but for us it’s really cold) so I decided to blame the weather for the absence of any lemmings: they must have frozen somewhere half way to me.

If you were to name one perfume that recently conjured lemmings for you what would it be?

Lemmings Laughs Loves

Laughs

Sigrun (Riktig Parfym): There are color nerds???? How did that company even come about? I’m picturing two nerds from the 60:ies, one of them very agitated, going: ”No, for the last time, beetroot and fushia ARE NOT THE SAME F***ING COLORS!!! Ok, now I’m gonna lock myself up in my room and map out every single color so we NEVER HAVE TO HAVE THIS CONVERSATION AGAIN”.

*

Vanessa (Bonkers about Perfume): So today for a laugh, I decided to speak the names of some iconic perfumes into Siri and see what it made of them…

*

Blacknall (aperfumeblog by Blacknall Allen): These Aliens are no slouches at procreating, it seems, and I remain the only one alienated – a stranger, it would seem, in a strange, smelly land.

Loves

Blacknall (aperfumeblog by Blacknall Allen) writes not about a single perfume but about the House that I like: Which will be the next great perfume house? The house that will define early 21st century tastes in scent?

*

K. or S. (Kafkaesque): Soon, the sun will shine intensely upon the sandy dunes and the dry desert wind will pick up traces of the spices, mixing it with the dust and the scent of Morocco, filling the air with the riches of the ancient spice route and the mysteries of the desert. That is the promise of L’Air du Desert Morocain Eau de Toilette Intense, a unisex fragrance by Tauer Perfumes. And it is a promise that it delivers upon, lock, stock and ten roaring barrels.

  1. Morning Undina! Best wishes for a good week!
Oh, I’ve missed your lemmings and loves posts! They’re always so funny.
My latest lemming was Veni, Vidi, Vici trio from Histoires de Parfums and my lemming came true. Quality Missala just sent me a package with samples of 13 new fragrances in their offer. All those HdP are here, Opardu, Creed fleur de Gardenia and all Perris Monte Carlo!
Now I have a lot to sniff.
And there’s likely I will receive samples from Ramon Monegal too. Brands manager started following my blog.

    • Thank you, Lucas! LLLs are back :)

Veni, Vivi, Vici sounded interesting for the names, if nothing else. I’ll wait for your reviews.

I’ve just smelled (on paper) Creed fleur de Gardenia and I liked it. Now I’m hopeful it won’t be as good on skin (once I get a chance to try it – I couldn’t get a sample from the store) – who needs favorites from Creed, right?

      • Great. I’ve written some reviews in advance to just click “publish” in this busy examination time so Those HdP will have to wait but I WILL review them.

Honey, are we reading our minds? Missala sent me a sample of that Creed Gardenia too! Gave it a try but I didn’t like it. When we get to talking about our swap I might decant you a litte bit from the vial.

  2. Nice to see you back!
I am lemming the two naturals that Laurie Erickson (SSS) will hopefully soon be putting on her site- Cocoa Sandalwood and Spicy Citrus Vetiver!

  3. That does sound exceptionally cold for your part of the world. It is snowing here in London as I type!

Oh Vanessa’s post Siri Games post was such a good laugh.

I’m sure I have more, but the two lemmings that spring to mind are Opardu and Dita Von Teese’s Rouge.

    • I haven’t tried the first Dita Von Teese’s perfume so I do not expect to see the second one any time soon. Though after Natalie’s (APB) review I felt that I was missing something.

    • It was a good post. I’d think so even if it weren’t about the brand I like but since it was :)

I decided to ease into the week (wearing By Kilian Forbidden Games) but tomorrow I’ll dare Angel Taste of Fragrances.

  4. You’re very kind to link to my post, Undina. Thank you. :) I got a laugh out of the “K or S.” My real name starts with S. but I’ve been called Kafka for so long that it’s almost a second name by now. Like Undina for you, I think. :) My lemming: Ormonde Jayne’s Tolu. That’s an absolute want. To a lesser extent (but just slightly) Chergui by Lutens and, perhaps, Alahine by Téo Cabanel. I’ve also become a bit obsessed with getting a sample of Azemour as everyone I know keeps raving about it.

    • I wasn’t sure but that was how you signed one of your comments – so I followed. Kafka is fine :)

I need to check if I have a sample of Azemour. A while ago a friend had sent me several Parfum d’Empire samples but I haven’t had time to add them to the database – so as the result I’m not sure if I have this one and I didn’t test it even if I had it. Now I’m curious.

      • Leaving perfumes aside for a moment, can I thank you for linking to Blacknall Allen’s blog? I would never have known about it otherwise and it is beyond fabulous! So clever, original, analytical, and witty. Plus, there is a clear love of history that I really respond to as well. Discovering her blog was one of the best parts of my day today and I’m very grateful to you!

As for Azemour, I hear it’s fantastic if you love orange blossoms. Which I most definitely do. :)

  5. I’ve got more lemmings than a girl should have. Thanks to you there are some Serge Lutens on the list. Chergui, Santal Majescule, among others. I’m also pining away for a few SSS and Olympic Orchid scents.

  6. Like Tara, I am lemming Dita Von Teese’s Rouge after reading Natalie’s review and the 5-Shalimars award she gave it! :)

For the most part, though, I’m actually feel pretty sated in regard to perfume. Good reading, though, I always like to pursue. Thanks for the links to these posts. I love Blacknall Allen’s line about the Aliens!! :D

  7. Thank you so much for the mention! I had some of my really big lemmings, that have been following me around for months, laid down for rest today as I received a package from a perfume friend :) But I’m very much pining for the April Aromatics sample set, and especially Calling all Angels that Suzanne wrote about recently. Just can’t get too many incense scents at the moment…

    • I haven’t tried Calling all Angels but I love Unter den Linden and Liquid Dreams from the brand.

Will we read soon about those perfumes that you’ve got from a friend? ;)

  8. Thanks for the mention in your laughs category! I loved Blacknall’s “no slouches at procreating” line and Kafka’s “ten roaring barrels”. Your crack about the lemmings getting frozen half way to you also made me smile.

Over here we also think of 0 C as mighty cold, and temperatures are lower than that currently, with snow covering the whole country!

Btw, I think I am even further behind with blog reading than you…

    • We won’t dropour pants to compare who’s the “baddest blog reader”, will we? ;)

I don’t want even imagine living with snow any more. If I can help it, I’ll be fine seeing it once everycouple of years for a couple of days. I hope you keep warm in there (with or without a hot water bottle).
